Truckers can use an easy-to-use app that helps them accept jobs and get paid online. This approach has been successful in getting the truckers to sign up for the free app, which in turn encourages brokers who supply their jobs to join the platform. Contractors also want to sign up, knowing they’ll have access to a network of over 4,000 short-haul truckers.

A Focus on Adoption

Iron Sheepdog’s co-founder and CEO, Mike Van Sickel, explained that the company spent its first few years focusing on getting customer adoption and reaching profitability. Now, it’s looking to scale. "Trust is the most important feature; we have to get the subhauler to actually use the app," Van Sickel said.

He emphasized that forcing contractors to use certain software solutions can create more problems if they’re not willing to adopt them. Instead, Iron Sheepdog chose to look at the problem from the bottom up, starting with the short-haul truck drivers themselves.

"We made a very simple app for the subhauler and tied it to 24-hour pay," Van Sickel said. "I call it simple; it was intentionally simple so that they would adopt it." This approach has enabled Iron Sheepdog to see its growth double each year since its founding.

A Disconnect Between Software Solutions and Adoption

Van Sickel noted that there’s a disconnect between some of the software solutions being developed and the willingness of individuals who will use them to embrace them. "It’s got to be a crawl, walk, run approach; it can’t be a crawl, run approach," he said.

He emphasized that no one wants to use technology if they’re not familiar with it or don’t see its value. "There is a disconnect between some of the software solutions that are being developed and a willingness by the individuals who will actually use it to embrace them."

Iron Sheepdog’s Funding

On February 14, 2024, Iron Sheepdog announced that it had raised $3 million in funding for its next venture. The company has been successful in securing funding from various investors, which has enabled it to continue developing its technology and expanding its reach.
